The Hedgehog Concept

Take your time…Focus on One Thing..Be Calculated in your efforts and plan things out. This the last thing you may wfoxant to hear when you are ready to hit the ground running.

The fox knows many things, but the hedgehog knows one big thing. -Archilochus

To optimize your results and find success quicker you need to do one project at a time and focus your time and energy in one specific place.  Once a project is done, it starts to generate revenue. If you insist on working on numerous projects at the same time, you spend more time overall working thus taking much longer to complete than if you were working on individual projects.

A big proponent of this process is Mike Filsaime. He practices what he preaches. This is called the Hedgehog concept.

Jim Collins, author of the best seller Good to Great, speaks about this concept of The Hedgehog and the Fox.

Ok, Ed so what the hell is this Hedgehog Concept about?

Basically, human beings are categorized as either “hedgehogs” or “foxes”. Hedgehogs live their lives with a single vision.

Foxes live quite different  lives, thinking outside the box and looking for a better solution at all times.

“Those who built the good-to-great companies were, to one degree or another, hedgehogs. They used their hedgehog nature to drive toward what we came to call a Hedgehog Concept for their companies. Those who led the comparison companies tended to be foxes, never gaining the clarifying advantage of a Hedgehog Concept, being instead scattered, diffused, and inconsistent. ”

The Hedgehog Concept is pretty much used by every successful business to find their area of focus and apply it to their goals. These smarties ignored what other companies might see as exceptional opportunities because these projects or opportunities did not fit with their strong point. The one thing they did best.

“Thanks teacher but how does this apply to my internet business?”

The foxes has his hand (or shall I saw paw?) in many many things but never really masters anything. The Hedgehog, he’s quite different. The Hedgehog has his sites on only one thing only and does it better than anyone else.

The  Fox in internet marketing tries every new idea, concept and buys every new program emailed to him yet only to quickly give up.

So, you need to relax, focus one one thing or niche and become an expert in that. Be the go to guy or gal. Once you are seen as the expert….this is when your business will explode.
